A delightful floral still life with catkins, ceramic vase amongst copper plate and book upon a teal ground. Brockway expertly captures the soft playfulness of the catkins, practically dancing their way out of the composition.

London born Michael Gordon Brockway painter and author, was schooled at Stowe and Peterhouse, Cambridge. After WWII he studied under Simon Bussy in France. After deciding to take up painting professionally he studied at the Ruskin School of Drawing, Oxford and Farnham School of Art. In addition to his exhibits at London’s Royal Academy, he has been the subject of several successful solo exhibitions at Walker Galleries and King Street Galleries. He is a honorary life member of the New English Art Club.

Initialed MGB lower left and further signed verso.

Overall in good colour, the canvas has some old pin holes as shown, possibly from a previous hang. Presented now in a contemporary white wooden frame.
