Desmond V.C JOHNSON (British 1922-2022) Seascape with Galleon, Oil on Board

Captivating seascape of nautical interest featuring a three masted galleon under full sail with other vessels, the artist expertly capturing the movement in the waves and piercing light reflected from the sea.

Presented in a solid wood period frame, signed lower right and titled verso. Excellent colour and condition.

Desmond was born in Dartmouth in 1922 and studied at the Falmouth School of Art. His work is listed in the National Archives and has won several awards, including first prize at a national exhibition at Plymouth Guildhall and a first prize at Devon County show. His paintings have found their way to international collections including the USA, Europe and Australia.
